vietEd by LEA — Inclusive Mobile Education App for Ethnic Minorities

Designing an education app for students the system has left behind.

vietEd by LEA (Learn, Educate, Aware) is a mobile application designed to support ethnic minority secondary school students in Vietnam — specifically those from the Hmong-Mien group — who face systemic barriers to quality education, including linguistic discrimination, ethnocentric curricula, and limited access to culturally relevant learning. This graduation project spans end-to-end: research, user persona development, brand identity, UI/UX design, and a fully prototyped, user-tested Figma application.

Playful, multilingual and built around the learner.

The app centres on two key features: a digital library to build reading, speaking, writing and listening skills, and a game centre to test subject knowledge in an engaging, low-pressure format. Milo the Chatty Monkey — an AI chatbot character — provides tailored academic support across multiple ethnic minority languages. The full UI system, built in Filson Pro across a vibrant blue, green and warm accent palette, balances approachability with professionalism. User testing confirmed the interface felt "fun and lighthearted, calming yet doesn't seem too childish or patronising."
