Stride: Designing the experience of growing up

The handover — not the errand — is the product.
Stride is an independent product concept created in one week for an Accenture Song interview exercise. The brief asked for a digital experience parents could use to send their children grocery shopping. Rather than design another list or tracking app, I reframed the challenge around the confidence gap between a parent learning to let go and a child learning to step up. Using desk research, a dual-user emotional journey and a 3 × 3 opportunity matrix, I prioritised three feature stories: reinforcement learning, in-store navigation and trust at payment. I translated them into a five-actor service system, parent-and-child flows and a working Figma prototype for children aged 8–14 in Australian supermarkets. The concept intentionally avoids live GPS: parents see meaningful progress, not location.

A system for growing independence — not monitoring it.
The prototype demonstrates a complete grocery mission across two linked experiences. A child progresses through Guided, Co-pilot and Independent modes; receives aisle-sorted guidance and an always-visible budget; and is supported through substitutions or payment failures without immediately handing control back to a parent. The parent receives calm progress signals and a shared debrief, but no live location tracking or intervention during the checkout moment. Beyond the screens, I mapped the supermarket data, payment rail and in-store support required to make the service viable, then outlined a freemium subscription, retailer partnership and card-interchange model. As a one-week concept sprint, Stride was not launched or formally user-tested. Its value is in the framing, prioritisation and system thinking used to turn a broad prompt into a focused, testable product direction. The next step would be to test the trust model and failure states with parents, children and supermarket staff. Independent concept created for an Accenture Song interview exercise. This was not commissioned client work and does not represent a live Accenture product.
